Gearbox Tuning

Gearbox tuning — also known as TCU (Transmission Control Unit) remapping — optimises the software that controls your automatic gearbox. Just as an engine ECU remap unlocks engine performance, a TCU remap sharpens shift speed, raises the gearbox's torque-handling limits and refines shift points so the transmission works in harmony with a tuned engine. It is ideal for DSG, S tronic, ZF, Tiptronic, PDK, DCT and most modern automatic and dual-clutch gearboxes.

What does gearbox (TCU) tuning change?

A TCU remap recalibrates shift timing, shift firmness, clutch engagement pressure, torque limiters and kick-down behaviour inside your transmission control unit. The result is faster, crisper gearchanges, reduced "shift flare" and slip, smarter gear selection under load and a gearbox that can safely handle the extra torque produced by an engine remap.

Why pair gearbox tuning with an engine remap?

Many automatic gearboxes have factory torque limiters that will actively cut or soften engine output to protect the transmission. After a Stage 1 or Stage 2 remap, these limiters can hold the engine back. Raising them with a TCU remap lets your car deliver its full tuned power, while quicker shift speeds keep the engine in its strongest rev range for stronger, more consistent acceleration.

Which gearboxes can be tuned?

We tune most modern automatic and dual-clutch transmissions, including VAG DSG/S tronic (DQ250, DQ381, DQ500, DL382 and more), ZF 8-speed and 6-speed units found in BMW, Audi, Jaguar and others, Porsche PDK, Mercedes and many torque-converter automatics. Is TCU tuning safe and reversible?

Yes. Every gearbox file we write stays within the safe mechanical limits of your clutch packs and transmission hardware — the goal is a sharper, stronger gearbox, not a fragile one. As with all our work, we keep a backup of your original transmission software so the gearbox can be returned to stock at any time.
